Llanfairpwllgwyngyll by Paulo Heuser - Back, I guess on Flickr.
I found this while poking around on Flickr. Looks like the name of this town is almost as long as the train station building itself! Wales, I love you very, very much.

Wow! That’s amazing. I had to hear it pronounced. Click to hear it yourself.

Reblogging because of the pronounciation link above^^. WOW.

WOULD YOU LIKE A NAME OF THE STAR FOR £1?

maureenjohnsonbooks:

I have been SHOUTING about this on Twitter, but I wanted to CODIFY this into a COMPREHENSIVE BLOG POST which I invite … no, BEG you to share.

So, March 1st is World Book Day. In England, World Book Day is celebrated by the giving out of £1 book tokens to students and many other wonderful book-related events! There are a few official World Book Day titles that are made in special £1 editions, so kids can buy their own book.

This year, the World Book Day committee selected a collection of wonderful books, but all for younger readers. The lovely people of Waterstone’s thought it would be nice if there was something on offer for older readers. So they selected two YA books. Working along with HarperCollins UK, they arranged to have £1 versions of these books made.

One of the two books, I am THRILLED to say, is The Name of the Star. Starting on MONDAY, 27 FEBRUARY, The Name of the Star will be available for ONE POUND at Waterstone’s.

SOME QUESTIONS I HAVE GOTTEN

Wait, £1? For a book? Is this a trick?

THIS IS NOT A TRICK.

Is it the entire book or just a section?

IT IS THE ENTIRE BOOK.

Do I have to be a kid/an adult/a reptile creature/a member of the royal class to take advantage of this?

No! ANYONE can purchase the £1 edition.

I don’t see this on the World Book Day site. Why?

This is not an official World Book Day book. This is a Waterstone’s promotion. It was set up so that there were some YA book options for readers who desired them.

Are there OTHER books offered?

There is one other book offered! The excellent Department 19 by WIll Hill.

Do I need a book token to pay for this?

NO. £1 is all that is required.

Can I pay with a book token?

Actually, yes! You can! This cannot be advertised on the posters for legal reasons, but you CAN in fact pay with a book token, making your copy FREE.

So I can pay with EITHER £1 or a book token, is that what you are saying?

That is precisely what I am saying!

Will this be in ALL Waterstone’s?

This is a widespread offer throughout all Waterstone’s in England, Scotland, Wales, and Ireland. (Not Waterstone’s in The Netherlands, I am sorry to say.) The £1 copies *should* be in stock in your local store, but each store orders their own books, so I can’t guarantee that there isn’t a rogue store out there that didn’t order some. But it is VERY LIKELY you will be able to get this offer in your local store.

WHAT IF MY STORE IS THAT CRAZY STORE?

Ask them to order it for you!

Can I buy this £1 Name of the Star online?

You must go into the shop, or send one of your servants/friends/highly trained animals in FOR you.

Can I buy more than one copy?

You can buy as many copies as your heart desires.

So I can buy a whole bunch of them, take off the £1 stickers, and give them as gifts? I could get, say FIVE GIFTS for FIVE POUNDS?

Now you’re talking! YEAH you can!

HOW LONG WILL THIS INSANITY LAST?

There are 10,000 £1 copies. This lasts while they last. So the sooner you get one, THE BETTER.
